Parking

Paid parking on Parkes Place West is managed by the National Capital Authority.

Paid parking hours are 8:30 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday (excluding ACT public holidays).

Short stay (4 hour) parking

  • Hourly parking is $3.80 per hour (maximum 4 hours)

Long stay (all day) parking

  • Hourly parking is $3.80 per hour (maximum 4 hours)
  • All-day parking is $16.50 per day.

On-site paid parking machines accept card or coin, or you can use the EasyPark phone app (additional fees apply).

Accessible parking spaces are available free of charge for Australian Disability Parking Permit holders.

Walk, cycle or e‑scooter

  • Questacon is a 30-minute walk across Commonwealth Avenue Bridge from Canberra's central business district.
  • Questacon is close to bicycle routes along Lake Burley Griffin and the Parliamentary Zone. Bicycle parking is available near the carpark on Parkes Place West.
  • Shared e-scooters (Beam Mobility or Neuron Mobility) are available for hire within the Parliamentary Zone.

Building repairs

What?

The main entry on the Rear Science Terrace has re-opened. 

Stage 1 of the paving replacement and drainage repair works has been completed. We have now commenced stage 2 works near the external entry to the café, this means the entrance to the café from the Rear Science Terrace will be closed.

When?

8 May to 30 June 2024 (approximately).

Why?

We are working to fix leaks that affect Questacon’s basement.

How does it affect you?

Direct access to the café on the Rear Science Terrace is closed. Visitors can access the café through the main entry on the Rear Science Terrace.
